Kumbh 2019 - Green Wall

The Kumbh Mela 2019 at Prayagraj takes place for approximately 55 days, spread over thousands of hectares around the sangam area, and becomes the greatest of ephemeral city in the world. Regularity of this celebration continuing since ancient times is unique in itself. Ever increasing pressure of populace and expanding cities tend to engulf the rivers and events like Kumbh, graces the rivers with the profound status of creators of the world. There is a deeply enrooted feeling of devotion and faith flowing in the veins of every Indian since eternity.

The Mela draws tens of millions of pilgrims over the course of approximately 55 auspicious days to bathe at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the mystical Sarasvati. Primarily, this congregation includes Ascetics, Saints, Sadhus, Sadhvis, Kalpvasis, and Pilgrims from all walks of life.

Introduction

There are many environmental issues in this modern and cutting edge technological world affecting our health and lifestyle to a great extent. All the environmental issues are need to be solved on urgent basis by the effort of all human beings on this planet. It is very necessary to enhance the awareness among common public. Rising pollution index, global warming, temperature raise, different types of pollution such as water pollution, sound pollution, degrading quality of soil and many more, these are few major concern which all world is juggling with. It is very important to make people aware about the conditions, their threats and seek solutions for these problems.

To raise the awareness between people and make them conscious towards environment CSIR-NEERI has initiated GREEN WALL campaign. The Green Wall concept is to pursue knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, which can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for current and future generations.

This initiative is to contribute to make this world a greener place. This campaign aims to sample and collect the solid waste data and water sampling data to spread words between the people about how their small efforts are important to make a big difference. Educating the visitors not litter garbage except dustbin, planting trees around their surroundings, preventing water wastage and being cautious towards the environment.
